Himachal Facts  :  

  • Total   Area:         55,673 Sq. Km  
  • Capitals:              Shimla (Summer Capital), & Dharamshala (Winter Capital) 
  • Altitudes:   Between 350m & 7000m 
  • Terrain:       Cultivated Valley, Forest Slopes & Mountains. 
  • Climate:    Different region's temperature varies. In the whole state summer offers a pleasant experience with temperatures varying around 20-25 degrees, it touches up to 35-40 degrees in the lower areas. It may drop up to -20 degrees in winter in upper hills but most of the time it stays 10-15 degrees in lower hills. Average rainfall in Himachal Pradesh lies between 152cm to 180cm. The snow remains for 5-6 months in the alpine zone. Clothing always remains a big issue here clothing suitable to the season and altitude should be carried along. 
  • Locations:  Himachal is bordered by the states/UT of Jammu & Kashmir (North), Haryana (South), Punjab (West), and the International Borders with Tibet/China (East). 
  • Language:    Mostly Hindi & several local languages of Pahari. Over 82% is the literacy rate in the state. 
  • Mountain Ranges:   Shiwalik Range, Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal, The Great Himalayan, and Zanskar ranges.  There are several high passes and valleys as well. 
  • Rivers:   The major rivers of Himachal are Yamuna, Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Spiti Giri & Pabbar. 
  • Lakes:  Himachal famous lakes are Renuka, Gobind Sagar, Rewalsar, Prashar Kamru Nag, Bhrigu Lake, Nako Lake, Dal Lake, Pong Lake, Kareri Lake, Chandra Tal, Suraj Tal and the great Manimahesh Lake. 
  • Airports:  The nearest international airports are Chandigarh & New Delhi, and local airports are Jubberhati (Shimla), Bhuntar (Kullu), and Gaggal (Kangra/Dharamshala) 
  • Railways: The nearest broad-gauge railheads are Chandigarh, Kalka, Una, Amb, and Pathankot are well connected with rest of the India. Narrow gauge lines are world heritage Kalka to Shimla and Pathankot to Joginder Nagar covering Jawalaji road, Kangra, Palampur & Baijnath. 
  • Medical Facilities: The state has main hospitals located at IGMC Shimla, Tanda Medical College Kangra, Medical College Chamba, and AIIMS at Bilaspur. The state has its own district hospitals as every district headquarters and in every tehsil.
